Dr Joe Greenwood-Hau

I am a Lecturer in the John Smith Centre at the University of Glasgow, where I focus on teaching around the annual UK Youth Poll. Previously, I was a Lecturer in Politics in the School of Social and Political Science at the University of Edinburgh and a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Government & Public Policy at the University of Strathclyde. I have held posts as a Teaching Fellow in the Department of Government at LSE and a Data Analyst at YouGov, before which I completed my PhD in the Department of Government at the University of Essex.

I currently teach a course that gives students practical experience of polling through contributing to the design focus of the UK Youth Poll. Previously, I have taught on courses covering measuring public opinion, quantitative methods, political behaviour, comparative political science, and political theory. My research sits at the intersection of political behaviour, political sociology, and political psychology, and currently focuses on how structural and perceived privilege relate to political participation and representation.

My British Academy Monograph, titled ‘Capital, Privilege, and Political Participation,’ will be published at the end of August 2025. I also recently contributed a chapter on class and politics to a textbook titled ‘UK Politics: Dynamics, Diversity, Territory‘, edited by Alan Convery. I have previously published on pedagogy, ideology and its relationship with views of politics, the influence of framing on support for expanding the franchise, and survey research methods.
